Phoenix, Ariz. (February 15, 2022) – Cahokia, a female-owned, Indigenous-led SocialTech + ArtSpace presents The Original Landlords, an Indigenous fashion show curated by artist and designer Jeremy Arviso. The fashion event will be held at Cahokia on Friday, March 4, 2022. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

“The idea behind the Original Landlords label is that Indigenous and American Indians have been on these lands since time immemorial and are the sacred land keepers,” said Arviso.

He continues, “Our land, our air, our culture, and people have been appropriated for hundreds of years. We’re taking it back as the Original Landlords and rent is long overdue.”

Original Landlords was inspired by the title of a reggae album by Hopi artist Casper Lomayesva for a t-shirt design in 2011. The t-shirts were a popular item sold on Arviso’s website under his separate brand, Noble Savage. Arviso revived the spirit of the brand for his debut runway collection at Cahokia.

“We’re transforming Cahokia into a fashion venue for this event and invite everyone to come out for a memorable experience on First Friday,” Cahokia co-founder Melody Lewis said.

“Collaboration, connection, and revitalizing the Indigenous perspective is our focus. It is an honor to be able to uplift Jeremy’s work thereby amplifying Indigenous fashion.”

The Original Landlords fashion show coincides with the 64th Annual Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market, which draws approximately 15,000 visitors to Phoenix and the greater metropolitan area. The fashion showcase will feature apparel, jewelry, and accessories from Arviso’s fall 2022 line and other Indigenous collaborators from Scottsdale’s Native Art Market. The evening features musical performances by singer, violinist, and composer QVLN, DJ Aw.Dre, and APETIGHT. Models will hit the runway with looks by the hair and makeup team Double Trouble and the show, is a production, in part, by Ponygirl Productions LLC.
