As we mark the second day of the fall season, Indian Day is in full swing on the Hopi reservation near Keams Canyon, Arizona. People from around the area gather and celebrate with laughter, song, dance, and happiness.
Historically, the Hopi people have celebrated Indian Day throughout the villages and many can recall participating. From as early as pre-school, to elementary, middle and high school, everyone is encouraged to join in and dance as a way to showcase not only their dancing skills but also their artistic side.
It is during the Indian Day activities that Hopi people showcase their culture through food, music, dance, and art. It always brings the community closer together and enhances the subtle differences among villages in their traditional dress and dialect.
