Upcoming Young Hopi Artist Showcases Art at the Santa Fe Indian Market

Joseph McCosar Santa Fe Indian Market

August 19, 2022

My name is Joseph McCosar. I’m 18 years old and from the Hopi village of Kykotsmovi in Northern Arizona. I am of the Hopi, Peeposh (Maricopa), Choctaw, Muskogee, and Cherokee tribes but mainly grew up learning my Hopi heritage in which I am of the roadrunner clan. My mother is Yvonne Sockyma, from Kykotsmovi, Arizona and my father is Patrick McCosar, from Riverside, California.
My interest in art began at an early age. It wasn’t until I was 14 years old that my interest in Hopi art had peaked. I like to draw and paint mostly. I like to use prisma colored pencils, oil paints, and a large array of different art media.

As an upcoming artist, I was speechless when I was accepted to this year’s Santa Fe Indian Market show. But I’m very grateful for this experience. I want to be able to share my art with those that admire and to represent my native culture.

Thank you Hopi Times for allowing me to introduce myself and to be able to share my talent. Most of my art can be found on my Instagram @mccosarjoseph. Kwa’kwa!

Visit me at the Santa Fe Market at booth number LIN E 750.
